BEHIND THE SURFACE

Every crack has a story.

01 / TOUCH

A quieter kind of creation

Tap any point on the ice, or focus the surface and press Space. Each touch grows branching fractures. Adjust impact for longer cracks, thickness for shorter, deeper responses, and brittleness for more branches. Undo removes your last touch; Refreeze slowly heals the whole surface.

02 / LISTEN

An instrument beneath your fingers

The studio layers filtered noise, low resonances and pentatonic crystal tones using synthesized audio. Lake ice has a spacious echo, thin ice sounds brighter and glacier ice resonates lower. These are artistic sound models, not field recordings. Begin at a comfortable volume; mute keeps the visual experience available.

03 / KEEP

Leave a frozen signature

Name your artwork and export a square or portrait PNG. Replay recreates the order and rhythm of your touches. Composer records a 15-second performance; Daily Fracture asks you to connect the five luminous points in eight touches. Share links contain up to 60 touches, not an uploaded recording.

A few field notes

Is this real ice physics?

This is an interactive artwork inspired by fracture propagation. Real ice responds to temperature, stress and structure in far more complex ways. Never use this simulation to judge whether outdoor ice is safe.

Why can’t I hear anything?

Tap the surface to unlock browser audio. Check the studio volume, mute button and device output. The app never requests microphone access.

Privacy & local storage

Your artwork is processed on this device. Your last 60 touches and settings may be stored in this browser; Refreeze clears the saved pattern. A replay link shares its encoded pattern with anyone you send it to. Blogger and enabled Google advertising services may process cookies and usage data under their own policies.
